The Cutest Failed Experiment (Laetolis BeastxDragon Turtle)

Note: I cannot draw, but in my head they are cute

General: There are rumors in some parts of the world that a fearsome, dark creature lurks, sometimes known as a Tarasque, sometimes by other, stranger names. So far, there have been no proven links that this being exists. One magi took these rumors as inspiration and sought to create a hybrid embodying the supposed features of this rumored beast, she thought she could take the fearsome nature of the Dragon Turtle, and combine it with the intelligence and reputation of the Laetolis Beast.

Welp, she thought wrong.

Instead, the... not-very-frightening and adorable Faux Tarasque was born. Inheriting the tiny stature of an adult Laetolis Beast, but not its eerie cry or unsettling aura, and the protective shell, round black eyes, and flexible beak of a young Dragon Turtle. Like its parent species, the Faux Tarasque is a solitary little thing, prone to picking fights with siblings if they encroach on its space. The Dragon Turtle's link to the sun, and the Leatolis' link to the dark, seemingly cancel each other at first, resulting in a hatchling that is most active and magically powerful at dawn and dusk, but otherwise lethargic, sleepy and magically stunted during day and night.

Egg: The egg is small, colored dark greenish / blue, its outer shell similar to reptilian scales. Occasionally a pale mist wafts around it.

Hatchling: Faux Tarasque are born as miniature versions of their adult forms, except much more vulnerable. They have small, odd patches of fur that has yet to grow in, and their round, dark eyes seem too big for their turtle-like faces. Their scaled, fox-like legs have very tiny claws. Color varies from emerald to ruby to copper, depending on the breed of their Dragon Turtle parent, which also influence what climate they prefer to dwell in, and the shell on their back is flexible and soft. They occasionally extrude a light mist, and during dawn or dusk they can generate enough magic to use it to hide themselves as they forage for food. Aside from squabbling with their siblings, hatchlings spend most of their time sleeping in dark, damp crevices.

Adult: Although their stature remains very small, adult Faux Tarasque nevertheless grow into their features. Their eyes remain large, round and black, much like a baby turtle, but their beaks grow sharper. Their scales and back shell have hardened, and their fur has grown in underneath their shell, and along their legs and neck. Not enough to create a mane, but simply enough to make them fluffy.

With enough magical energy to keep them going, Faux Tarasque still occasionally sneak naps in at various periods of the day, but are no longer as lazy and lethargic as they used to be. They still prefer to remain on their own, but have enough patience to not snap at anyone in their personal space bubble. Not straight away anyway.

Their magical strength is at its peak during noon, midnight, dawn and dusk, and at its weakest inbetween those hours. Their abilities are mainly inherited from the Dragon Turtle side, with magic coursing through their veins, filling them with more energy, speed and strength. They can create small pockets of mist to hide themselves as a defense mechanism, but otherwise are not the illusionists and tricksters that their Laetolis parents are.

Although the Laetolis Beast inspires fear with its child-like cry, the Faux Tarasque instead has a small squeak, that sounds more like a child's toy if anything. If their angry, persistent squeaks do not chase off an irritating invader then the Faux Tarasque's sharp bite aught to do the trick.

Created via breeding:
Chlorophyte Dragon Turtle + Laetolis Beast = Chlorophyte Faux Tarasque
Phaeophyte Dragon Turtle + Laetolis Beast = Phaeophyte Faux Tarasque
Rhodophyte Dragon Turtle + Laetolis Beast = Rhodophyte Faux Tarasque
