I am a fan of Russel Peters, who is a comedian who bases most acts off stereotypes and racism, but does it to everyone.
I don't understand what you're trying to say for the first part, do you think you could explain?
As for the comedian, even if he does it to everyone, some groups still get hurt more than others. It's like poking someone unhurt versus poking someone bruised. Even if you poke just as hard each time, the person with the bruises will feel it more than the one who isn't.

I don't believe any type of generalized assumption applied to an individual is positive. For instance, I watched a talented chef compete on Chopped. She identified as first generation American and revealed that her family was Korean. They expected her to take a science education and she went along with it at first. Realizing she'd rather cook, she dropped her pHd work and put herself through culinary school.

One would think that would be that but she floored the entire audience, including me and my family watching at home, by telling them that she still gets fellow chefs and potential employers telling her she ought to be a scientist. She'd been passed over for promotions and job offers based on that stereotype.

I don't see how assuming something helps that person. This is essentially a positive stereotype but it's hurting people just the same.

It is an interesting thing to speak about :)
Personally I do not like stereotypes. However some people like saying stereotypic things and even like when people label them/they label themselves.
I am secretly homosexual, I only came out to some of my best friends yet. When I hear people talking about other people who loves the same gender they can be very offensive and stereotypic. Especially in such a narrow minded, conservative country like the one I live in. People here picture homosexuals as pink-wearing, primming, weak sinners, who can't even lift a pound. Because of this, I don't usually label people. Sometimes I can't help it and accidentally do it tough.
Also I don't think that any stereotypes are positive. I mean I wouldn't be happy if I was tall and people kept asking me if I play basketball...Or if I was Asian and people would expect me to be good at math.
But that is just my personal opinion :)

Even though it sucks to be stereotyped into something, it's also important not to hate on people who are pretty much the stereotype. It's not their fault other people are rude. Like, some bisexuals hate on bisexual people who enjoy threesomes, or who are poly, which is really sucky because it's not their fault people are too thick to see that everybody is different

Oh ok cx sorry.
I just didn't want to seem that way. But yeah, I don't think we should hate people who stereotype, just correct them if need be.

I've been stereotyped so many times it's not even funny. Mostly negative ones. They include as follows:
- Retarded
- Goth(ic)
- Gay
- Emo
- That one who cuts
I've been having the last two thrown at me a lot in the past year because, it is true. I just hate being called anything except by my name and such. Honestly, I believe that stereotypes are pointless and are only going to lead to many people feeling worse because of it.

I've been called the following stereotypes:

Blackheart
Badass
Too white
Hick
Hillbilly
"one of the northern hillbilly white trash"
"pretty smart for a hick"
Redneck

Jeez, I may be from Maine, but that doesn't mean I'm a Hillbilly. I'm too intelligent.
